Candle Care
Burning and caring for your candles properly ensures that they'll burn how they're meant to, and you'll get the most burn time and smell from them. We've outlined the most important steps for you below.
Before Burning
Before Burning
- Before burning your Ninth Line Candle, trim the wick at least ¼ inch. This prevents uneven burning and tunneling, as well as excess smoke from wicks that are too long! We sell wick trimmers here.
- Your first burn needs to be 4 hours, or until an even wax melt pool has been achieved.
- Keep your melt pool of wax free of wick trimmings and any other fire hazards.
- Only burn your candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface. This helps to prevent heat damage to counters and tables, as well as stop your candle from tipping over and prevents our candles from cracking or breaking.
- Avoid drafts, vents or air currents.
- Burn for 2-3 hours each time you light the candle, other than the first burn. This will help the candle burn evenly, and remember to trim wicks before each burn. Make sure your candle has a full melt pool every time you burn it.
During Burning
- Never, ever leave your burning candle unattended or lit while sleeping.
- Never touch or move a burning candle.
- Never move a candle container when you have a full melt pool. Wait until it is solid again.
- Don’t burn a candle all the way down. To make sure your glass doesn't char, crack or explode, stop burning a candle when there is ¼ inch of wax left in the vessel.
- Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Before re-lighting, let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts.
- Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Only burn on or near heat proof surfaces. Keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.
- Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
- Do not place lit candles where they can be knocked over by children, pets or anyone else.
- Do not exceed 4 hours of burning at a time.
After Burning
- Use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle, if available, as it’s the safest way to prevent hot wax from splattering.
- Never use water to extinguish a candle, this can cause the hot wax to splatter and could break a glass container.
- Before leaving the candle, make sure your candle is completely out and there is no glow coming from the wick ember.
- Do not touch or move the candle until it has completely cooled.
